An assistant with the Seattle Storm and Lakeside, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His latest column outlines a multi-shot drill.

Multi-Shot

Requirements: One ball, 1-6 players, one basket.

Players start at the left corner (as you are facing the basket). Player 1 sprints to the 28-foot line, plants her right foot on the line and turns to come down the lane for a layup. Coach is standing in the key and will pass the ball and rebound for the shooter. Coach passes the ball to the shooter for the layup. Player 1 continues to the right elbow to receive a pass for the jumper. Player then continues via a slide step into the corner for the corner jumper. Once this player takes the corner jumper, the next shooter in line starts up the sideline.

Alternatives:
  • Player shoots the layup and upon landing, prints back to the same side of the floor to shoot the elbow jumper and then slides in to the left corner for the jumper. have added a defensive slide to the end of this to get the player to the other side of the floor.
  • Player starts out heading for the 28-foot line, plants and fills the left lane for the 12-15-foot jumper off the backboard, simulating the fast-break jumper. Her next shot will be a 15-foot jumper from the top right elbow. The next shot will be off of a "rebound" that the coach tosses up on the glass, and the shot is simulating crashing the boards from the top of the key and finishing with a power move.
