A former assistant with the Seattle Storm and now defending state 3A champion Lakeside, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His latest
The Drill
column is about a drill for post development.
Hello to you all. I am back writing my column after a long break. One of the drills that I use for my post player development follows.
- Chris
Angle into Elbows
Requirements:
One coach, 2-4 players and two basketballs.
Post player starts at the elbow facing the basket. The coach starts under the basket with the ball. The post backpedals five steps (straight back), then runs diagonally into the opposite elbow. The coach will pass the ball for the jump shot. The post backpedals five steps and diagonally into the other elbow.
Note:
If the post is going from right to left, have her step in right-left for her shot. If the post is going from left to right, have her step in left-right for the shot.
Options:
Have the coach pass to the post at the end of the backpedal before they angle in. The player must dribble into the elbow.
