A former assistant with the Seattle Storm and now Lakeside and NW HoopGurlz, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His latest
The Drill
column helps three players focus on three-point shooting.
Three-Point Shooting
Requirements:
Three players, two balls (one extra Ball), one coach with a stop watch or game clock
This is a drill that we use to work on our three-point shooting. There are five shooting spots - two corners, two wings and the top of the key. The clock is set for 10 minutes. Each player gets to shoot at each spot for 40 seconds (40 seconds x 3 shooters = 2 minutes per spot). The first player is the shooter, one is the rebounder and one player is the passer. The safety ball is set under the basket on the baseline in case the rebound goes away from the court.
The rebounder tries to read where the ball is going to come of the basket. She must have hands up, be in a ready athletic position and rebound before the ball hits the ground.
The passer tries to pass the ball exactly where the shooter wants the ball. The passer can simulate passing out of the post to the shooter. She also can pass from across the court. She must also pass from both sides of the shooter.
The shooter can work on a variety of shots: 1. Catch and shoot, 2. Catch and slide left or right for the three, 3. Catch, jab and shoot, or 4. Catch, drive and step back into a three.
