Hoopaholics 39, Dragons 36
SEATTLE, March 10, 2002 - Caitlyn Faidley hit three three-pointers and scored six of her game-high 20 points during the final minutes as the Hoopaholics claimed the RB Sports 8th Grade championship over the comeback-minded Dragons.

The Dragons trailed by seven, 33-26, with eight minutes to play, but stormed back to tie the game twice, the last time at 35-35.

Briana, who led the Dragons with 11 points, scored seven of those in succession to pull her team even at 33. Lauren powered in a bucket to forge the final tie.

Behind two early baskets from Elisa, the Dragons got off to a fast start and controlled the lead for almost all of the first half. Kayce scored consecutive baskets to put the Dragons up 18-15 just before halftime, but the Hoopaholics scored a three-point play at the buzzer to tie.

The Hoopaholics' tremendous defensive pressure forced the Dragons to commit 23 turnovers, two of those during the final minute of play.

Dragons 53, Contact 52 (2 OT)
SEATTLE, Feb. 24, 2002 - The Dragons pulled off one of their most scintillating comebacks, scuttling an eight-point, second-half deficit, hitting a last-second shot to send the game into overtime, then sinking a last-second free throw to win it.

Kayce dropped in a three-point bomb just before the buzzer to send the game into the first overtime. Then Briana sank a free throw with three seconds left in the second overtime to secure the second narrow victory in as many tries against Contact.

The victory was the Dragons' seventh of the year by four or fewer points and their fourth, against only one loss, in overtime games (see chart below).

Briana, who hit seven of nine shots en route to a game-high 16 points, dropped three long jumpers, and Danielle added two buckets, then Kayce hit a pair of free throws and her three-pointer, to rally the Dragons from a late, 32-24 deficit.

Lauren also came up huge, scoring 14 punishing points inside, as the Dragons survived an opponent season-high 63.3-percent shooting by Contact. The Dragons also managed to overcome their own cold shooting from the foul stripe, where they missed 17 of 31 attempts.

Scoring: Briana 16, Lauren 14, Danielle 7, Elisa and Kayce 6, Sassia 2, Phyllea and Marquitta 1.
Turnovers: Dragons 19, Contact 19.

Y.E.S. 57, Dragons 50
SEATTLE, Feb. 24, 2002 - Angie Ramos scored 10 of her game-high 19 points as Y.E.S. put the Dragons in an early hole from which they couldn't quite escape.

The flu-riddled Dragons shot a frigid 1 for 12 from the field and fell behind 16-5 after the opening period. Still, they twice scrambled back from double-digit deficits, and turned the game into another in a series of nail-biters between the two rivals.

Lauren Boudreaux, who finished 10 of 18 from the line with 14 points, nailed the last of those foul shots to cut the Y.E.S. lead to four points with a little under two minutes to play.

The Dragons had chopped a 12-point, first-half deficit to just six, then allowed the Y.E.S. to balloon back up to a dozen before the final rally.

Led by Lauren, the Dragons hit 21 of 39 free throws, outscoring Y.E.S. by six from the stripe. That wasn't enough to offset chilly 27.7 percent shooting from the field.

Devin Brooks chipped in 15 points for Y.E.S.

Scoring: Lauren 14, Briana 9, Danielle 8, Elisa 7, Kayce 6, Phyllea 4, Marquitta 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 20, Y.E.S. 18.

A tough weekend for the Dragons, as Danielle and Elisa will attest.

Force (8) 78, Dragons 66
KING'S, Feb. 18, 2002 - The Dragons were simply outgunned in the hotly contested shootout.

The combined 144 points represented the highest scoring game of the RB Sports Freshman League season. The Dragons had nine players score points for the first time this year and posted their high offensive output of the year.

The Dragons dug themselves an early hole, but scratched out several times, cutting the Force deficit to four points in the third quarter and five in the fourth.

Keeping with their President's Day Weekend trend, the Dragons shoot themselves in the foot, so to speak, by missing 10 of 13 free throws in the first half. They finished 9 of 26 for the game and were a combined 25 of 63 (39.7%) for the weekend.

Scoring: Briana 16, Lauren 13, Phyllea 7, Elisa, Marquitta and Sassia 6, Sarah 5, Kayce 4, Danielle 3.
Halftime: Force 41, Dragons 32.

Hoopaholics 51, Dragons 39
SEATTLE, Feb. 17, 2002 - Defense ruled this contest, only it was the defense of the Hoopaholics, not the Dragons.

The Hoopaholics' fullcourt pressure forced the Dragons to commit more than twice as many turnovers (14) as they scored field goals (five) in the first half.

A second straight poor performance (9 of 20) from the foul line contributed to a deficit that reached as large as 18 points. The Dragons managed to put a big dent in the Hoopaholics' lead with a late 7-0 run punctuated by Briana's second three-pointer of the game.

Scoring: Briana 14, Lauren 11, Kayce 5, Phyllea 4, Sassia and Elisa 2, Danielle 1.
Turnovers: Dragons 18, Hoopaholics 7.
Shooting: Dragons 12/25 (48.0%), Hoopaholics 22/40 (55.0%).

Sassia, Phyllea & Kayce in deep discussion.

Dragons 39, DAP Comets 21
SEATTLE, Feb. 17 - Two Ds - Defense and Danielle - got the third D - the Dragons - off quickly.

Danielle scored the first seven points of the game and the Comets had nine turnovers but only seven points in the first half as the Dragons ran their 8th Grade League record to 4-0.

Phyllea scored eight of her game-high 12 points as the Dragons claimed leads as large as 20 in the second half.

Scoring: Phyllea 12, Danielle 10, Briana and Elisa 6, Marquitta 3 and Kayce 2.

Dragons 43, Triple Threat 23
SEATTLE, Feb. 10, 2002 - A strong defensive effort and a combined 18 second-half points from Phyllea and Kayce paced the Dragons to their third win without a loss in RB Sports 8th Grade League play.

The Dragons also got timely shooting from Sarah, whose most impressive feat may have been fighting off the flu in time to play.

Leading start to finish, the Dragons busted the game open with a 15-6 rampage that started near the end of the first half and ended with a 24-13 lead early in the second. Sarah began the fireworks with a three-pointer and jumper and Phyllea closed it with three straight buckets to begin the second half.

Sarah and Kayce each had a pair of baskets and Triple Threat was held to 1-for-10 shooting as the Dragons put the game away with a 15-4 run later in the second half.

After a 3-for-19 start, the Dragons shot 50 percent the rest of the game, outscoring Triple Threat 32-16 during that span. The Dragons overcame their chilly early offensive effort with strong defense, forcing Triple Threat into 11 first-half turnovers and limiting them to 15.4-percent, first-half shooting.

Scoring: Phyllea 12, Kayce 12, Sarah 8, Briana 4, Danielle 3, Elisa, Lauren and Sassia 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 13, Triple Threat 17.
Shooting: Dragons 18/49 (38.2%), Triple Threat 9/49 (18.4%).

Dragons 33, Contact 31
SEATTLE, Feb. 3, 2002 - Playing their third game of the day, and following two especially tough opponents, the Dragons had a difficult time finding their legs and motivation.

It took some offensive fireworks from Briana, who scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half, and foul trouble, which claimed three Contact players, for the Dragons to pull out their sixth win of the year by four or fewer points.

The Dragons started an all 7th grade lineup, which got off to a slow start. Contact easily broke pressure and out-ran the heavy-legged Dragons to take a lead in the early going.

Contact led early in the second half, but the Dragons rallied and seemed to have the game well in hand when Briana hit a late three-pointer. But the Dragons committed a silly foul with seconds remaining, then turned the ball over to give Contact a shot at a win or tie.

Scoring: Briana 15, Lauren 8, Phyllea and Elisa 4, Marquitta 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 8, Contact 9.
Shooting: Dragons 13/34 (38.2%), Contact n/a.

Force (9) 58, Dragons 50
SEATTLE, Feb. 3, 2002 - The Dragons claimed a moral victory, leading the game until collapsing to a fine, experienced team with about five minutes left to play.

The Force, considered the best 9th grade team in the region, toyed with the Dragons during their first meeting in December.

Both teams were coming off tough games against rivals, but the Dragons had a hour more between games and it showed early. Using pressure and a transition attack, they bolted to an 11-4 lead, riding it to a six-point halftime advantage.

The Dragons held onto the lead behind some three-point fireworks from Danielle and Sarah, who splashed in a pair herself. But the Force mustered an impressive energy spurt midway through the final period and zoomed to an 11-point lead in a matter of minutes.

A large part of the Dragons' success was containing the Force's great point guard to an 8-point, 7-turnover outing.

The victory was the Force's perfect 10th of the RB Freshman League season.

Scoring: Briana 11, Lauren 10, Sassia 8, Sarah 6, Kayce 5, Phyllea 4, Elisa and Danielle 3.
Turnovers: Dragons 21, Force 11.
Shooting: Dragons 14/40 (38.0%), Force 17/52 (32.7%).

Sarah, Kayce, Marquitta and Danielle to the rescue.

Dragons 31, Hoopaholics 26
SEATTLE, Feb. 3, 2002 - Neither team could muster any larger than a four-point margin in a tightly contested battle between old but friendly rivals.

The victory was the first ever for the Dragons over the Hoopaholics, who were without one of their best players.

Behind baskets by Sassia, Briana and Elisa, the Dragons forged their four-point lead, 18-14, shortly before halftime.

But the Hoopaholics knotted the score at halftime, then took a one-point lead early in the second half. Sarah's three-pointer put the Dragons back in command. The score was tied three more times before Briana put the Dragons ahead for good, then she and Kayce closed out the win from the free-throw line.

The teams shot a combined 28 percent and committed a total of 38 turnovers in the defensive donnybrook. Caitlyn Faidley led the Hoopaholics with 12 points.

Scoring: Lauren and Sassia 7, Briana 5, Marquitta and Sarah 3, Danielle, Elisa and Kayce 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 21, Hoopaholics 17.
Shooting: Dragons 9/40(23.0%), Hoopaholics 12/34 (35.0%).

Triple Threat OR 33, Dragons 31
TIGARD, Ore., Jan. 20, 2002 - The Dragons staged a trademark fourth-quarter comeback, only to be stymied on a buzzer-beating baseline shot by the Triple Threat in the MLK Junior Invitational championship game.

The Threat's Jordan rebounded a teammate's errant attempt, then launched the winning shot with 0.6 seconds remaining. That heart-stopping shot counteracted another - a three-pointer with seven-plus seconds left by Briana that tied the score at 31.

After leading much of the game, the Dragons fell behind 29-20 midway through the fourth quarter. Behind seven points from Briana, the Dragons clawed their way back with an 11-2 run.

Dragon defense set the tone early in the game. The normally hot-shooting Triple Threat missed all seven of their field-goal attempts and were pressured into nine turnovers as the Dragons chiseled out a 7-1 lead in the first quarter.

Though the Dragons held onto a 19-13 lead midway through the third quarter, the Triple Threat defense tightened. Bothered by the Triple Threat pressure, the Dragons made only five of 18 shots and committed a combined eight turnovers in the second and third quarters. Dominating the interior and forcing the tempo themselves, Triple Threat put together a scintillating 16-1 run to take a 29-20 lead midway in the fourth.

Playing in their 14th consecutive tournament championship game, the Oregon Triple Threat extended their amazing win streak to 60 straight.

Defense was the overall winner as the Dragons shot 29 percent from the field to the Triple Threat's 26 percent. The Dragons might be kicking themselves over free-throw shooting as they hit just eight of 18 attempts from the stripe.

Scoring: Briana 12, Lauren 8, Elisa and Sassia 4, Kayce 3.
Turnovers: Dragons 17, Triple Threat 15.
Shooting: Dragons 10/35 (29.0%), Triple Threat 11/43 (26.0%).

Dragons 43, TT Wildfire 38
TIGARD, Ore., Jan. 20, 2002 - The Dragons had to pull themselves out of an 11-point hole, leading to a familiar, but dramatic fourth-quarter scenario.

With Lauren powering for six points and Sassia closing out with three free throws, as well as tightened defense, the Dragons scored the last 12 points of the semifinal matchup.

The Wildfire, a team drawing from Tigard and Tualitin, were held to a single field goal in 13 atttempts and forced into five turnovers during the decisive fourth quarter.

Lauren scored 10 of her Dragon tournament-high 14 points in the second half.

The Dragons got off to a sluggish start, committing six turnovers and shooting a frosty 4 for 11 while falling behind by 13-9 in the first quarter. After storming back into the game, the Dragons came out flat after halftime and fell behind by 11 in the third quarter.

The Dragons protected the ball well, committing just six turnovers, and shot 48.8 percent from the field.

Short-handed for the first day of the tournament, the Dragons played zone defense for the first time this year and were unable to press. They still managed to force 15 turnovers and contain the Skyhawks to 35.6 percent shooting.

Dragons 46, DAP Comets 42 (OT)
SEATTLE, Jan. 13, 2002 - The Dragons engineered their third overtime victory of the year with defense and fourth-quarter heroics by Briana and Phyllea.

The Dragons trailed by as many as six late in the fourth quarter, but sent the game into overtime on three tremendous inside moves by Phyllea down the stretch. Briana set up Phyllea's outburst with one of her own - eight fourth-quarter points en route to a team season-high 22.

Briana hit nine of 15 shots, including a three-pointer, and had just one turnover, to lead the way. Sassia sank a pair of free throws to put the Dragons up for good in OT. Briana provided the winning two on a run-out and great outlet from Phyllea, and Lauren sealed the deal with a power inside move.

The Dragons struggled to a 19-18 halftime lead, but fell behind in the third quarter, primarily because of 1-for-10 free throw shooting in the third quarter. The Dragons hit only 10 of 32 foul shots during the game.

Scoring: Briana 22, Phyllea 11, Kayce 5, Sassia and Sarah 3, Lauren 2.

Edmonds Wave 47, Dragons 44
SEATTLE, Jan. 13, 2002 - The Dragons chopped an eight-point deficit all the way to just one, 45-44, on Lauren's two free throws with seconds left, but couldn't pull it out.

The loss represented a 21-point turnaround for the Dragons against the Wave, who pounded them 58-34 on Dec. 16.

"Hard-pressed" was an apt description for both teams as the Dragons and Wave fullcourt pressed each other to the tune of 53 combined turnovers.

The pressure was stacked in the Wave's favor in the first half as they mounted a lead as large as 11 points. The Dragons closed to within three, 21-18, late in the half, but the Wave hit a circus three-pointer just before the buzzer to up their halftime lead to six.

The Dragons outscored the Wave 20-15 in a wide-open fourth quarter, but dug themselves too big a hole during a turnover-infested third period.

Briana led the Dragons with 16 points, on 7-of-14 shooting. But she and her teammates squandered a huge advantage from the free-throw line by missing 13 foul shots.

Scoring: Briana 16, Sassia 8, Lauren 6, Kayce 5, Elisa 4, Sarah and Phyllea 2, Marquitta 1.

Dragons 46, Shoreline Storm 42
SEATTLE, Jan. 6, 2002 - The Dragons rode a sizzling start, then fended off the Storm as Kayce iced the game by sinking two free throws with seven seconds to play.

Briana scored five of her game-high 18 points as the Dragons romped to a 9-0 margin to start the game. Hitting six of eight shots, the Dragons mounted a 13-6 lead after the first quarter, then elevated that lead to as many as 11 points in the second.

The Dragons shot a season-high 51.4 percent from the field, but hit a drought as their lead shrank in the third quarter. The Storm overtook the Dragons in the fourth, leading by as many as four points. But Briana scored five points down the stretch, Lauren added a bucket off a power move and Kayce's two free throws capped the Dragons' stellar 10-for-16 performance from the line.

Briana finished the game having hit seven of 14 field-goal attempts, four of six free throws and didn't turn the ball over a single time. That helped the Dragons tie their season low of only five turnovers.

Scoring: Briana 18, Lauren 8, Kayce 7, Phyllea 4, Elisa, Marquitta, Sarah and Sassia 2.

Edmonds attacked the Dragon halfcourt pressure with heady and disciplined offense and limited its turnovers to just six.

The Dragons, meanwhile, struggled to get much going. They even wavered from the foul line, missing 11 of 17 attempts.

Y.E.S. (8) 49, Dragons 48 (2 OT)
EVERETT, Dec. 16, 2001 - Led by Angela Ramos down the stretch and in the two overtimes, Y.E.S. took a 2-1 series lead in one of the hottest rivalries in the region.

The Dragons trailed by five with 17 seconds left in regulation, but tied the score on a technical foul against the Y.E.S. coach, then a three-pointer before the buzzer by Briana. The Y.E.S. lead had been six points with under 40 seconds left in regulation, but the Dragons shaved off a point on a free throw by Sassia.

Briana led the Dragons with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

The Dragons seemingly had a commanding position with a three-point lead and Y.E.S. star Devin Brooks fouled out with about five minutes left in regulation. But Y.E.S. trounced the Dragons on the boards and had Ramos and Camille Floyd step up. Ramos scored both Y.E.S. baskets in the first overtime to rally her team from a four-point deficit with under a minute to play.

The Dragons, who led throughout most of the game, had a shot to win with three seconds to play, but a pass from Sassia sailed through the hands of Phyllea, who was wide open under the basket.

Scoring: Briana 14, Elisa 10, Sarah 9, Phyllea 6, Sassia 4, Kayce and Lauren 2, Marquitta 1.

Dragons 60, DAP Comets 29
LACEY, Dec. 9, 2001 - Sarah was on fire, scoring her Dragon high of 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting and three three-pointers.

Behind Sarah's long-distance marksmanship, the Dragons hit four of seven three-pointers and shot a season-high 52 percent overall.

Kirkland Force (9) 62, Dragons 49

KING'S, Nov. 25, 2001 - The Dragons amazingly avenged an earlier 33-point loss to Y.E.S., hanging on to bounce them out of bracket play and advance to the Turkey Time semifinals.

Sparked by a pair of baskets from Elisa, the Dragons scored nine straight unanswered points and stormed to a 28-21 lead early in the second half.

Lauren and Kayce both had nine points to lead the Dragons, and both hit key free throws down the stretch to help fend off a furious Y.E.S. rally.

The Dragons' attacking style coaxed Y.E.S. into foul trouble and fueled a 15-6 scoring advantage from the free-throw line. Kayce and Danielle each sank five foul shots.

Heat 45, Dragons 41
KING'S, Nov. 24 - The Dragons nearly overcame a slow start against a more experienced Heat team.

Sarah's late three-pointer chopped what had been an 11-point deficit to just three, 44-41, but couldn't get a defensive stop, allowing six straight errant shots before having to take a foul.

The Dragons, led by Briana's 14 points, spotted the Heat five points at the beginning of the game, closed their deficit to 11-13 at one point, but spotted the Heats five more points to start the second half. Sarah had two three-pointers and Briana added another to spark the comeback.

Twenty-one turnovers, including one in their last possession of the game, also doomed the Dragons.

Scoring: Briana 14, Lauren, Sarah and Sassia 6, Phyllea 4, Kayce 3, Elisa 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 21, Heat 15.
Shooting: Dragons 15/39 (38%), Heat 15/38 (39%).
