Oregon Triple Threat 31, Dragons 25
SEATTLE, July 13, 2002 - Meeting for the first time since the Triple Threat tripped the Dragons at the buzzer in Portland, the two teams engaged in a highly defensive and tactical affair.
Staring slowly, the Dragons rallied behind defense and shooting from Elisa, who had a team-high eight points, and Tracy to forge a 10-10 tie and set up a see-saw battle.
The Dragons led three times in the second half before Paige, who led all scorers with 11 points, dropped a three-point bomb for a one-point lead that Triple Threat was able to expand.
Scoring: Elisa 8, Tracy 5, Joann and Kayce 4, Rebecca and Sassia 2.
Halftime: Dragons 16, Triple Threat 16.

Hawks 59, Dragons 29
SEATTLE, July 13, 2002 - A funny thing happened on the way to a pretty well-played game.
It suddenly turned into a rout.
The Dragons sliced the Hawk lead to just three points, 21-18, early in the second half, but it quickly and completely unraveled for them.
Elisa was one of the few bright spots for the Dragons, scoring 11 points off impressive wing and post moves. The Hawks were led by 13 points from Jessica.
Scoring: Elisa 11, Tracy 6, Kayce and Rebecca 5, Sassia 2.
Halftime: Hawks 21, Dragons 16.

Dragons 45, Lady Ballers 40
SEATTLE, July 12, 2002 - The Dragons overcame a slight deficit, a good team and an ugly scene to open Summer Storm with a victory.
Tracy capped a game-high 14 points by coming alive down the stretch, scoring off an inbounds play then stealing the Ballers inbounds pass for another layup. The flurry secured the lead for the Dragons in a skintight game.
Tracy hit a pair of three-pointers, and Sassia another, in the first half as the Dragons scratched out a tie at the intermission.
Kayce's defense helped contain the Baller's great point guard, Shavon, and Rebecca provided an inside presence with eight points.
Scoring: Tracy 14, Rebecca 8, Sassia 7, Elisa and Joann 6, Kayce 3, Karen 1.
Halftime: Dragons 26, Lady Ballers 26.

Rain White 40, Dragons 38
KING'S, June 29, 2002 - The Dragons had two great looks at the basket during the final eight seconds, but could not connect and were knocked out of the Downtown Classic by the team against which it opened the tournament with a win.
Despite its self-destructive tendencies (19.3 turnovers a game during the tournament), the Dragons nearly overcame a five-point deficit within the final couple minutes.
The Dragons opened the game on fire, led by three-pointers from Sassia and Tracy, and mounted an early 11-point lead. Karen, Kayce and Rachel also connected on long-distance shots during the Dragon shooting frenzy.
But the Dragons lacked the depth to sustain that level of play, especially in their third game of the day against a true high school junior varsity team. Their turnovers - 16 for the game - mounted and they shot a frigid 17.4 percent in the second half as the Rain surged ahead.
Tracy & Sassia
Tracy flourished in her new role as the Dragons' sixth starter, averaging 10.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, including a game-high nine boards against the Rain.
Giving away size, as usual, the Dragons nevertheless had the rebounding advantage in each game, outboarding the Rain and Thunder by an average of 7.7. In an odd trend, the Dragons hit just 29.5 percent of their field goals, but sank 65 percent of their free throws during their two afternoon losses.
Scoring: Tracy 11, Elisa and Sassia 7, Kayce 6, Rachel 5, Karen 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 16, Rain 12.
Shooting: Dragons 13/44 (29.5%), Rain 16/37 (43.2%).
Rebounding: Dragons 22 (Tracy 9, Kayce 5, Sassia and Georgia 2, Elisa, Joann, Lauren and Rachel 1), Rain 17.

The Thunder in action against the Miracles
Yakima Thunder 46, Dragons 29
KING'S, June 29, 2002 - Trailing by 20-plus-points early in the second half, the Dragons scratched back to just 13 back, but saw their momentum melt away as two three-pointers went halfway down the cup then swirled out.
The Dragons dug themselves an early hole with their two bugaboos - turnovers (23 in all) and poor shooting (17.6 percent in the second half). The turnovers in particular doomed them as the Thunder, one of the elite teams from Eastern Washington, seemed to capitalize on every mistake.
The Dragons piled up 15 of their miscues in the first half alone. Consequently, they managed to sqeeze off only 10 shots, nullifying the fact that they connected on half of them. The Dragons hit 12 of 18 free throws, with Georgia, Joann, Kayce, and Sassia hitting them during their team's frenzied comeback attempt.
Scoring: Tracy 9, Rachel 6, Kayce 5, Georgia 3, Elisa, Joann, and Sassia 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 23, Thunder 14.
Shooting: Dragons 8/27 (29.6%), Thunder 19/35 (54.3%).

Dragons 32, Rain White 27
KING'S, June 29, 2002 - Rising to her new role as the Dragons' sparkplug off the bench, Tracy came alive late in the game to help the Dragons fend off the Rain.
During the final minutes, the Dragons executed perfectly an inbounds play out of a timeout, leading to a Tracy layup. Tracy then stole the ball in the backcourt for another basket that sealed the victory. She finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Rachel supplied an inside presence for the Dragons, collecting nine points and a game-high six rebounds.
The Dragons had to overcome 12 first-half turnovers with an energized defense that allowed the Rain just eight points on 25-percent shooting by halftime. The Dragons then produced an efficient offensive performance in the second half, shooting 46 percent from the field while containing their turnovers to six. They also controlled the boards in both halves.
Scoring: Tracy 11, Rachel 9, Elisa and Kayce 5 and Sassia 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 19, Rain 13.
Shooting: Dragons 12/29 (41.4%), Rain 10/32(31.2%).

Impact 25, Dragons 20
EDMONDS, June 23, 2002 - The Dragons registered their second-lowest scoring output of the entire year (2001-02) and continued their trend of uninspired play in the morning.
Alex woke up the Impact with her inside play, scoring 10 of her game-high 12 points during the second half of their Who's Got Game first-round bracket matchup.
The Dragons had jumped ahead 8-1, then held the Impact to 2-of-11 shooting in the first half. Kayce helped jump-start the Dragons with five first-half points and defense on the Impact's great shooter, Katie.
But behind Alex's board work and inside play, the Impact turned those numbers around in the second half, hitting nearly 50 percent of their shots and earning a 10-6 rebounding advantage. The Impact caught the Dragons late in the game.
Rachel led the Dragons with 10 points and five rebounds.
Otherwise, it was another woeful offensive performance for the Dragons, who hit just 3 of 14 shots in the second half and missed 10 of 15 free throws overall. In their two tournament losses, the Dragons shot a combined eight for 34 (23.5 percent) for the foul stripe. Ironically, Joann finished third in the "Get Your Shot On" Free-Throw Open Division Shootout.
Scoring: Rachel 10, Kayce 5, Elisa 4, Joann and Tracy 2, Sassia 1.
Turnovers: Dragons 11, Impact 15.
Shooting: Dragons 7/29 (24.1%), Impact 9/26 (34.6%).

The Dragons talk it over
Dragons 48, Lady Style 41
EDMONDS, June 22, 2002 - Tracy cooked early and Kayce got burning late, and the combination helped the Dragons snap out of an offensive funk.
Kayce scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half and buried all eight of her free throws as the Dragons, in a complete reversal of their first Who's Got Game tournament outing, made 12 of 15 from the stripe.
Hitting two three-pointers in the process, Tracy lit the Style for 10 first-half points, helping the Dragons establish an early lead they never relinquished.
Rachel snared seven rebounds to help the Dragons establish a 25-22 advantage on the boards.
Scoring: Kayce 16, Tracy 14, Joann and Rachel 6, Elisa 3 and Sassia 2.
Turnovers: Dragons 14, Lady Style 14.
Rebounds: Dragons 25 (Rachel 7, Joann 5, Georgia and Kayce 3, Elisa, Karen and Sassia 2, Tracy 1), Lady Style 22.

Seattle Blues 40, Dragons 31
EDMONDS, June 22, 2002 - For the second straight game, the Dragons got off to a sluggish start on offense and couldn't crawl out of an early hole.
The Dragons' biggest deficiancy came from the free-throw line, from which they were a dreadful 3 of 19.
The chilly shooting caused the Dragons to drop a decision to the Blues for the first time in four games between the two.
Scoring: Tracy 11, Kayce 10, Joann 5, Rachel 4, Sassia 1.

Magic 87 44, Dragons 28
SEATTLE, June 16, 2002 - A funny thing happened during the Dragons' defense of their School's Out Classic title: They were hit by a cold front less than a week outside of the start of summer.
Shooting just 28 percent from the field, the Dragons were unable to muster at least 30 points for only the third time all year long (58 games). Only Rachel (four of seven) and Lauren (two of four) were able to shoot 50 percent or better. The rest of the Dragons shot a combined 19.4 percent.
Compounding the offensive nightmare, the Dragons committed 17 turnovers and missed nine of 12 free throws.
Scoring: Rachel 10, Tracy 6, Lauren 4, Kayce and Sassia 3, Elisa 1.

SEATTLE, June 15, 2002 - No fire alarm this time, though something obviously was burning.
That something was the Dragons, who regained their form and rolled through their School's Out Classic pool opponent.
Tracy drained a pair of three-pointers en route to a team-high 18 points, Kayce hit a three-pointer and converted a three-point play on her way to 14 points, and Rachel splashed a three and finished with 10.
The Dragons hit 50 percent of their shots en route to a commanding 27-8 halftime lead, then held the Players to 15-percent shooting in the second half.

Seattle Spirit 43, Dragons 33
SEATTLE, June 14, 2002 - The Dragons got off quickly, but a big team and, in a way, a fire-alarm-induced hiatus did them in.
The Connolly Center fire alarm went off seven minutes into the game, with the Dragons holding a seven-point lead. The building had to be evacuated for about 15 minutes. Afterward, the Dragons' lead melted into an 18-all tie by halftime.
A three-pointer by Sassia and buckets by Elisa and Tracy built the Dragon lead back up to 25-19 early in the second half. But the Spirit put together a 14-0 blitz to take over the game for good.
The Spirit figured out a way to weather the Dragon pressure, committing just four turnovers in the second half, and clamped down defensively, holding the Dragons to an icy 26.1-percent shooting during the final 22 minutes.
The loss was the Dragons' first since April 27 and snapped an 11-game win streak.
Scoring: Tracy 15, Kayce 7, Elisa 6, Sassia 3 and Rachel 2.

Dragons 50, ECBA Green 45
SEATTLE, June 9, 2002 - The Dragons held Emerald City to just two points during the final five minutes, and Elisa and Rachel hit two free throws apiece during the last 1:40.
Down by as many as 12 in the first half, Emerald City came charging back and tied the game at 43 on a three-pointer by Laura. But Tracy followed her own miss with 4:25 remaining to put the Dragons back on top for good.
Four Dragons delivered double-figure scoring, led by Tracy's 13 and Kayce's 12. Rachel scored 11 and Elisa had 10.
Led by a red-hot Kayce the Dragons got off to a quick start, making their first four shots. Kayce downed five of seven shots and scored 11 of her 12 points in the first half. Her fourth jumper of the half gave the Dragons their first 10-point lead, 23-13. Kayce and Elisa each had a pair of buckets as the Dragons surged 8-0 just before that.
The Dragons, who won their 11th straight overall, opened up a 12-point advantage several times in the first half, the last time at 31-19 on Rachel's backdoor layup.
Kayce
Emerald City came out of halftime charged. Rachel split their interior defense for a bucket and three-point play and Tracy sank a three-pointer, but both plays only temporarily staved off the ECBA Green team.
The Dragons' unrelenting defensive pressure forced Emerald City into coughing up 18 turnovers and held steady down the homestretch. That helped offset just 7-of-17 shooting from the foul stripe.
Scoring: Tracy 13, Kayce 12, Rachel 11, Elisa 10, Lauren 4.

Dragons 41, Seattle Blues 34
SEATTLE, June 9, 2002 - The Dragons had to overcome a first-half cold front (22.5-percent shooting) and rode defense and the inside-outside punch of Rachel and Tracy to take control in the second half and advance to the championship game.
Rachel had nine of her 10 points and Tracy pitched in six of her 10 as the Dragons heated up to a more reasonable 43-percent shooting in the second half.
In addition to defense, the Dragons' steady ballhandling - just eight turnovers - helped offset cold shooting and helped them squeeze off 11 more shots than the Blues. The Dragons also had 19 free throws to the Blues' 14.
Scoring: Rachel and Tracy 10, Elisa 8, Kayce 7, Georgia, Joann and Sassia 2.

Kayce delivered five of her eight points and the Dragon defense collected three big turnovers during the decisive final two minutes.
The Dragons' come-from-behind rally was completed after Sassia and Kayce scored driving layups and Tracy came up with a backcourt steal that led to another layup by Kayce. The victory was then secured with foul shots by Tracy and Kayce during the final seconds.
Falling into a deep hole early, the Dragons back to life with their pressure defense and running game and overcame early foul trouble by Tracy, who led them with 11 points.

SEATTLE, May 19, 2002 - The Dragons' seventh straight victory was a hairy one. Rachel scored a team-high 12 points, including two game-winning free throws, and Tracy triggered a furious Dragon comeback.
The Dragons trailed by five with 5 1/2 minutes to play, but relied on their tight-game experience to carry them through in spite of not being at their best.
Tracy ignited the comeback by splashing a three-pointer. Kayce made a steal in backcourt that led to a free throw. Another steal by Tracy led to another foul shot, by her. Rachel then sank her game-winning free throws.

SEATTLE, May 12, 2002 - The Dragons weathered a substantial storm, engineered by the Lady Ballers' great point guard, to earn this win.
Up by 17 with about 5 1/2 minutes left, the Dragons had their lead evaporate to just six at one point. But Elisa and Sassia sank back-breaking, backdoor layups to keep the Tacoma team at bay.
Led by Tracy's 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting, the Dragons shot a blistering 53.8 percent from the field and withstood the Ballers' full-court pressure, turning the ball over just 10 times.
With Tracy, Elisa and Sassia connecting from long distance, the Dragons threatened to break the game wide open late in the second half. Tracy's three-pointer staked the Dragons to a 17-point lead that quickly shrank.

Emeralds 44, Dragons 41
TACOMA, April 27, 2002 - Is the late-game luster starting to fade from the Dragons? Not only did this lose a game decided by four or fewer points for the second time in three games, they lost for the first time while holding a lead going into the final minutes.
On the other hand, three of the Dragons who played in this game joined the Emeralds the next day. So perhaps their own turmoil clouded the issue.
The Emeralds shot just 31.5 percent and committed 23 turnovers, but punished the Dragons on the offensive boards.
Fueled by two late three-pointers from Tracy and another from Sassia, the Dragons rallied from behind. Sassia followed with a three-point play and Tracy scored fast-break bucket off a steal by Rachel, allowing the Dragons to take a five-point lead into the final minutes.
The Dragons led 41-40 with about 1:30 to play, but traveled, gave up a rebound off a missed Emerald foul shot for the fifth time in the game, then missed a couple of point-blank baskets and the Emeralds closed out the scoring.
Tracy led the Dragons for the third straight game with 14 points.
Elisa made one of the Dragons' two opening-half threes and the Dragons held the Emeralds to 23.3-percent shooting in the first half.

Magic 88 80, Dragons 65
SEATTLE, April 27, 2002 - In a rematch of last year's regional championship game, the Dragons and Magic 88 staged an exciting, high-octane duel.
After falling behind by as many as 16 points, the Dragons several times chopped their deficit as low as eight points, but could not get over the hump against the tall and talented Magic.
For the second straight game, Tracy led the way with 16 points, including a late three-pointer while getting fouled. Facing her old team, Rachel provided a solid inside presence and chipped in 14. Phyllea had 12 for the Dragons.
Briana, Elisa and Kayce turned in solid defensive efforts and Marquitta was a force inside for the second straight game.
The Dragons were somewhat hampered by the limited play from Sassia, who was unable to start or play much because of the flu.

Dragons 58, Meadowdale Colts 34
SEATTLE, April 27, 2002 - The Dragons opened the 2002 Regional Championships by racheting up their defense and registering a rousing victory.
Overcoming their inept free-throw and inside shooting, the Dragons forced 22 turnovers in the first half alone (35 in all) and held the Colts to just 11 second-half points.
The Dragons, who were just 3 for 13 from the foul line, spurted ahead by forcing nine Colt turnovers during the final two minutes of the opening half. They then opened the second half by forcing Meadowdale to miss 20 of its first 23 shots, and put the game away with a defensive-minded, 16-2 run.
In spite of numerous missed layups, the Dragons shot 45.8 percent from the field and had a balanced scoring attack led by Tracy, who had 11 points in her first game back with the team.
Rachel, also debuting for the Dragons, had 10 points. Marquitta had nine points and Phyllea added eight as eight Dragons scored four or more points.
Turnovers: Dragons 14, Colts 35.
Shooting: Dragons 27/59 (45.8%), Colts 13/50 (26.0%).
Halftime: Dragons 34, Colts 24.

Impact 32, Dragons 27
SEATTLE, April 7, 2002 - This proved to be a barnburner between two teams that love to get after it on defense and push the ball on offense.
In the end, it was the Impact's shooting stars, mostly Katie Kirsch, plus their smaller but hungrier rebounders, mostly the diminuitive Valencia Doty, who prevailed.
Katie punished the Dragons throughout the game with her jumper, then Valencia nailed a putback and completed a three-point play at the end to deliver the Impact victory.
The Dragon defense dominated the first half, containing the high-flying Impact to 10 points. Elisa got the Dragons untracked offensively with two early buckets, and her team took a 13-10 lead into halftime. That lead could have been 13-8, but the Dragons took an ill-advised quick shot and Katie drained a jumper just seconds before the buzzer.
The momentum seemed to shift with the jumper to the Impact, and the Dragons self-destructed down the stretch. Though they were able to use their superior size to attack the basket, the Dragons missed nine of their final 10 free throws and were a dismal 3 of 12 from the line overall.
Turnovers: Dragons 7, Impact 7.
Shooting: Dragons 12/34 (35.3%).
Halftime: Dragons 13, Impact 10.

Emeralds 42, Dragons 30
SEATTLE, April 7, 2002 - The Dragons dedicated the game to developing their new players and actually held their own for much of the way.
On the positive side, the Dragons shotly nearly 50 percent from the field and Sassia ended a long team drought by nailing a three-pointer. On the negative, the Dragons committed too many turnovers and failed to hold their own on the boards.
Overall, it wasn't a bad showing against a team that eventually went on to upset the tournament hosts, Y.E.S., then win the tournament title.
Turnovers: Dragons 16, Emeralds 14.
Shooting: Dragons 11/23 (47.8%).
Halftime: Emeralds 23, Dragons 16.

Neither team was able to muster anything more than a six-point lead over the other.
