What comes around, goes around. It may be a trite saying, but it's the reason why Kentwood finally is where we thought they'd be in, say, March - that is, queens of the hill in the state of Washington.
As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, as the top offensive and defensive teams in the state, the Conks and Lewis and Clark were a coin toss. The Tigers retained the No. 1 slot in the HoopGurlz.com Elite Eleven because they were the defending State 4A champs, plus they already were there. And we saw no reason to remove them - until now.
Back on Dec. 19, Lewis and Clark handled Shadle Park by 14 on the Highlanders' home floor. Last week, the Highlanders hit 19 of 23 free throws and committed only two fouls in the second half at the Tigers' joint. Lewis and Clark shot a frigid 33 percent and the Lexies - Lexie Pettersen and Lexi Bishop - combined for 36 points for Shadle Park, which is having its best season in 11 years.
Likewise, Othello, just 9-5, lost to Ellensburgh by 10 the first time they played at Othello. Last week, a day after Ellensburgh claimed a piece of the league lead via an upset of East Valley, Othello, in goes-around fashion, clipped the Bulldogs by four.
And then there's Gig Harbor, which held HoopGurlz All-American Alex Montgomery of Lincoln to just four points in a near upset in mid-December. Last week, Montgomery had 22 points and 14 rebounds during a 22-point victory for the Abes.
All of which leaves us with another trite-but-true saying: Revenge is a you-know-what.
