Any more questions?
With essentially just a week of regular-season games left to play, that's the issue: What don't we know about this crop of teams in Washington state?
As I write, Chief Sealth is starting to settle the first of a two-part question about whether Rainier Beach is for real. The Viks were 14-2 going into the first of two games with the Seahawks this week, with their only two losses being slim ones to Seattle Prep and Lakeside. Beach is ultra-athletic and just keeps coming after you.
The Sea-King District gets five to State 3A, so it's very likely that the Vikings will be a postseason factor. Issaquah is the obvious jewel in a down season for KingCo, so you could see Rainier Beach advancing from Metro, along with Sealth, Prep and Lakeside.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the mountains, Moses Lake and young towers Ann and Carly Noyes were shot down, for the first time this season, by Utah-bound Cydney Knight and once-beaten (by Moses Lake) Pasco. That came a week after Lewis and Clark took its first loss, from Shadle Park. The defending State 4A champs will play Mead and imposing, 6-foot-5 freshman post Alexis Olgard on the last day of the regular season for a chance at a rare feat - winning a Greater Spokane League title outright.
Why does that last fact matter? Because GSL teams are going to need every edge possible as they try to stumble over each other and two strong Columbia Basin teams to get through to the State 4A tournament. Lewis and Clark, Moses Lake, Pasco and University are very good teams and one of them isn't going to make it. If Mead or Shadle Park break through, then two of that esteemed group will not.
