One of the most difficult things to teach a young player, even at the NBA level, is how to make players for teammates. Because it involves reading defenses, knowing your own offenses intimately and trusting your teammates, as well as a high skill level, it is a complicated skill. And what distinguishes Doreena Campbell from many of the nation's top high-school players.
Campbell, a UCLA signee who plays for Edison High in Alexandria, Va., recently surpassed a rare combination of milestones, logging her 2,000th career point, while also reaching 500 career assists.
The No. 89 prospect in the 2007 class by HoopGurlz.com, Campbell is a 5-foot-10 guard averaging about 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals this season for Edison, which is ranked No. 12 in the country by Full Court Press. She also is working on a streak of double-figure scoring games well over 100 long.
Further evidence of Campbell's multitasking skills is her presence for the fourth straight year in the National Honor Society.

The 47 points is the highest total achieved by a girl in the area during the past decade. Yes, it took McDonald three overtimes to reach some of her totals, but consider this: She is a 5-9 point guard. McDonald also had a 29-point, 15-rebound performance this season against Bellview. ... Angie Bjorklund, a Tennessee commit and HoopGurlz.com's No. 2 prospect in 2007, had a triple-double (season-high 36 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists) for University in her Greater Spokane League regular-season finale against Ferris. Bjorklund finished with a triple- Anya Covington | double in points (a season-high 36), rebounds (11) and assists (10). Bjorklund has scored more points in her career (1,907) than any other boy or girl to have played in the GSL, surpassing the record of current NBA rookie Adam Morrison. ... Whitney Williams, from Port Aransas, Texas, recently reached 3,000 career points. Only 10 players had reached that milestone since Texas went to the five-on-five, fullcourt format for girls in 1978. Constantly double- and triple-teamed and only 5-11, Williams had 47 points against Mathis on Dec. 15 this season. ... Wisconsin is working the state of Illinois' 2008 class. The Badgers already have verbals from forward Anya Covington of Edwardsville, Ill., guard Jamie Russell of Rock Falls, Ill., and forward Ashley Thomas of Glenview, Ill. Covington, a powerful 6-2 who plays for Chicago Hoops-Express, chose Wisconsin over Illinois and St. Louis and is averaging 17 points and 11 points this season. Russell, an explosive 5-10, weighed offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Bowling Green, Dayton, Drake and Michigan and is averaging 21 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Thomas, 6-2, had surgery last May to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. ... Junior Lindsey Mason, a 6-4 post at Etowah High School in Woodstock, Ga., has narrowed her schools of interest to Georgia, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Clemson. Mason is a high-school teammate of Tennessee commit Alicia Manning, the No. 6 prospect in the '08 class per HoopGurlz.com. ...
