* Connecticut * Delaware * District of Columbia * * Florida * Georgia * CONNECTICUT Heather Buck Stonington HS, Pawcatuck, Conn. 6-3 center, Class of 2008 One of the most hotly pursued juniors in the country because of her size and position, Buck is long with surprising agility and plenty of upside as a post. The Connecticut High School Coaches Association's player of the year as a sophomore, she covers enormous ground, baseline to baseline, as the anchor of her defense. While not as polished at the offensive end, Buck averaged 18.5 points as a sophomore and has the basketball smarts to hurt defenses with her passing and will attack the offensive glass. She also is one of the more vocal, confident on-court leaders in the game. Da'Shena Stevens Trinity Catholic HS, Bridgeport, Conn. 6-1 forward, Class of 2008 Undecided Stevens is a quick, athletic 6-1 wing who would be hands down consensus state POY if it weren't for Heather Buck. Stevens can slash, rebound, pass - she's a do-it-all player. Connecticut has been a very interested recruiter. Hartford Courant All-State, State Class S tournament MVP and first-team, all-league as sophomore. Back to Top DELAWARE Elena DelleDonne Ursuline Academy, Wilmington, Del. 6-5 guard, class of 2008 Undecided Regarded as the No.1 player in the junior class, DelleDonne is completing her fourth year of high school ball as she started at Ursuline Academy in the eighth grade. She is a game-changing player with the ability to drop 50 points, which she did in the state championship game against arch-rival St. Elizabeth's in 2006. She is a smooth player with great pivots moves and the ability to shoot from beyond the three-point arc. She leads her high school to national acclaim and ranking every year and has earned every honor imaginable, plus is perhaps the most recognizable high-school basketball player in the country, having been featured on ESPN, Sports Illustrated, RISE Magazine and SLAM, among others. Her team participates in the TOC in Phoenix and she put on a show in 2006 again. On top of being great on the court she is a great student and dedicates much of her life to taking care of her older sister who has special needs. She worked with The 2006 Special Olympics, visits the sick in hospitals, helps run basketball clinics for 2nd-8th grade boys and girls, and sponsors a less-fortunate child every Christmas. DelleDonne also has a 4.0 GPA and recently was accepted into the National Honor Society. Khadijah Rushdan St. Elizabeth HS, Wilmington, Del. 5-11 guard, class of 2007 Rutgers signee Rushdan is a very physical player who is arguably the best point guard in the senior class. She stepped on the floor at the USA Basketball FIBA U18 trials and took control. She has a ton of shake in her game and is stronger than almost every high school guard trying to guard her. She has a post game, too, and takes advantages of mismatches by working in the post too. Rushdan finished 2006 with her high school ranked in the top 25. Back to Top DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Tia Bell H.D. Woodson, Washington, D.C. 6-3 forward, Class of 2007 North Carolina State signee The No. 67 overall prospect in her class by HoopGurlz.com, Bell also is the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in D.C. A Street & Smith Preseason Honorable Mention All-American, Bell was the DCIAA Player of the Year and was named third team All-Met by the Washington Post after averaging 20.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game during her junior season. She was named first team All-DCIAA East Division as a junior and sophomore and All-District by the Washington Post in 2005. Bell, who scored 51 points against M.M. Washington in December, is on the honor roll at Woodson. Camille Collier Sidwell Friends School, Washington, D.C. 5-6 guard, Class of 2007 Wake Forest signee Ranked as one of the top 100 prospects in her class by Blue Star Basketball, Collier has been named to the All-Independent School League Team during her junior and sophomore seasons and is on track for a third straight selection. She has been averaging nearly 25 points per game as a senior, helping Sidwell Friends become one of the region's top tops. A standout on the club circuit last summer, she was selected as an adidas Top Ten All-American Camp All-Star as well as all-tournament at the 2006 Sidwell Tournament and the Peach State Hoops Tournament. Back to Top FLORIDA Tiffany Hayes Winter Haven HS, Winter Haven, Fla. 5-10 guard, Class of 2008 Connecticut Commit Her combination of length and athletic explosiveness gives Hayes the ability to shoot the three with ease and repeated form, as well as the ability to rocket past defenders with the dribble. She had a breakout performance during the nationally televised T-Mobile Classic, and should be one of the most highly recruited prospects in her class. Hayes was named second-team all-state after averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds for Winter Haven, which has been a nationaly ranked power and state runner-up during her career there. She also has been named an all-star at the adidas Big Ten All-American Camp. Krystal Thomas The First Academy, Orlando, Fla. 6-5 forward, class of 2007 Duke signee Thomas is a top 10 player who started the season off against one of Central Florida’s top teams with a 38 point, 19 rebound performance. She is helping the women’s game reinvent some positions as she will be a forward at Duke not a center as is typical with her height. She runs the floor, can jump and dunk a basketball and has shooting range to 17 feet. She led her team into battle at the Nike TOC this winter against the top teams in the country getting an opening round win over Towson Catholic. She is a nominee for the Central Florida Big Mac Athlete of the Year as well as being selected preseason Second Team All-American by HoopGurlz.com/Scout.com. As a junior she was selected as an AAU U16 All American and adidas Top Ten Camp All-Star after leading her high school to a 2A state championship and a 30-2 record. She was the Orlando Sentinel’s Player of the Year as a junior and is a front runner to win the honor again. Back to Top GEORGIA Kelley Cain St. Pius X HS, Atlanta, Ga. 6-6 center, class of 2007 Tennessee signee Cain is a super smooth big who plays both ends of the floor. Her most outstanding attribute is her ability to catch the ball. She has great hands and catches even the worst of post passes. She has pivot moves and shot blocking ability as well as being one of the best passing posts in the country. She averages 21.5 ppg, 10 rpg, 6 bpg. She was selected to the all-state team as a junior and was the AAAA state player of the year. Brittany Carter Newton County HS, Covington, Ga. 5-10 guard, class of 2007 Georgia signee Carter is a big-time scorer who can also create for her teammates. She averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals as a junior and her play this summer boosted her recruitment before she signed to play at Georgia. Carter is ranked in the Top 30 of her class by both Scout.com and the All Star Girls Report. Jordan Jones Collins Hill, Suwanee, Ga. 5-9 guard, Class of 2007 Undecided One of the country's great long-distance shooters, Jones has been an integral part of Collins Hill's nationally ranked team the past two years (this year, likely No. 1 in the nation). The No. 50 prospect in her class nationally by HoopGurlz.com, Jones also has been named all-state as a senior by the Georgia High School Association as a senior, as well as all-state, all-county and all-area as a junior. Also an accomplished softball player and in the classroom, she also is a member of Honor Society, Beta Club, Christian Youth Association for Athletes and works with underprivileged students in tutoring those that are one grade level or more behind in elementary school. Drey Mingo Marist School, Atlanta, Ga. 6-2 forward, Class of 2007 Maryland signee One of the rare combinations of size and mobility, Mingo made a splash at the 2006 USA Basketball trials and was No. 16 nationally in her class by HoopGurlz.com. After averaging 19 points as a junior, she was Northside Player of the Year, all-state and all-county, and was an all-star choice at the adidas Top Ten All-American Camp. Maya Moore Collins Hill HS, Suwanee, Ga. 6-0 forward, class of 2007 Connecticut signee Moore may very well be the best high school basketball player, ever. She led Collins Hill to an unbeaten season and mythical national championship. She is a tireless worker on both ends of the floor and a dominating player on both ends as well. Moore raises her level of play against the best and led the nation’s top ranked team to tournament victories on the national stage in 2006, winning the Nike Tournament of Champions where she set her career high in scoring with 42 points only to turn around in the T-Mobile Invitation championship a week later and break that record with a 48-point performance. At 6-foot she is a versatile player who can beat you inside and out, at the defensive end, and is a consummate team player. Back to Top Click Here |
