* Indiana * Iowa * HAWAII Keisha Kanekoa Honoka`a HS, Honoka`a, Hawaii 5-6 guard, Class of 2007 Hawaii signee Kanekoa is a two-time first-team all-state selection and was conference player of the year after averaging 15.0 points, eight rebounds and five assists as a junior. She led Honoka ' a to state semifinal appearances during her junior and sophomore seasons and a conference championship in 2006. Kanekoa was named the most outstanding player of the Hawai High School Association girl's state basketball tournament her sophomore year, during whcih she averaged 14.0 points. She also helped lead Team Aloha, the Hawaii all-star team that captured the Storm/Swish Invitational in Santa Barbara and was an all-tournament selection at the End of the Trail in 2006. Shawna-Lei Kuehu Punahou HS, Alea, Hawaii 5-10, Class of 2008 Undecided One of the most heralded and higly recruited players in state history, Kuehu is almost certain to miss her entire junior season after suffering a torn ACL in her left knee during a fall league game. The No. 17 overall prospect in her class, according to HoopGurlz.com, she led Punahou to state championships in both her freshman and sophomore season, setting a state record with 37 points, on 16-of-23 shooting, in the 2006 state championship game. She was named Player of the Year by both the Honolulu Advertiser and Star-Bulletin for the second straight year after averaging 19.8 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.1 blocks and 2.2 assists as a sophomore. Kuehu also had a breakout summer in 2006, earning all-tournament honors at the prestigious End of the Trail while playing with Kalakaua Wahine and all-tournament honors by HoopGurlz.com while playing for the Cal Storm at Nike Nationals. She also was the leading scorer for Team Aloha, the Hawaii all-star team that captured the Storm/Swish Invitational in Santa Barbara in September, 2006. Vicky Tagalicod Hilo HS, Hilo, Hawaii 5-10 guard, Class of 2009 Undecided A strong, multi-position player with guard skills, Tagalicod may have been the most heralded freshman in state history. She was a mainstay on the first Team Aloha, sponsored and organized by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, which beat both the Cal Storm and Cal Swish in their own, co-hosted event in Santa Barbara last fall. Tagalicod also was named all-tournament at the Oregon City Shootout and End of the Trail last summer. Back to Top IDAHO Nicole Gall Borah HS, Boise, Ida. 5-11 guard, Class of 2007 Santa Clara signee An accomplished scorer, Gall also has good size for the backcourt. She was the only underclassman named to either the All-Idaho first team or all-conference in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. Able to produce points inside, off the dribble or from three-point range, Gall was the leading scorer in the conference and paced Borah to a conference title as a senior. She also gets after it on defense, producing more than three steals per game. Kama Griffitts Coeur d'Alene HS, Coeur d'Alene, Ida. 5-10 wing, Class of 2009 Undecided Probably the top underclassman in the state, Griffitts was second in scoring in the Inland Empire League with more than 14 points per game as a sophomore. As a freshman, she had 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting and five assists in the Idaho 5A state semifinals. An all-tournament selection at the End of the Trail High School tournament in Oregon City, Griffitts also was a second-team, all-league and all-state selection for her freshman season. A tri-sport athlete, she also plays volleyball and runs track. Lindsey Stark Coeur d'Alene HS, Coeur d'Alene, Ida. 5-4 guard, Class of 2007 Undecided Stark was the leader of a Coeur d'Alene team that finished second in the Idaho State 5A championships in 2006. She was a first-team, all-league and All-North Idaho selection, as well as a second-team, all-state choice as a junior. One of the state's great on-court leaders, Stark also earned status as a Scholar Athlete from Coeur d'Alene, as well as a Citizenship Citation from the Idaho High School Athletic Association. She also helped Coeur d'Alene to the state championship in softball, where she was a first-team, all-league choice and nominee for player of the year in North Idaho. Layne Tucker Garden Valley HS, Garden Valley, Ida. 5-6 guard, Class of 2007 Undecided The Class 1A Player of the Year as a junior, Tucker was third in the state in scoring (19.1) and first in steals (6.5), as well as averaged 8.5 rebounds, as a senior. She set a school record with 43 points, to go with 13 steals and nine rebounds, against Cascade in January. Tucker led Garden Valley to the Idaho State 1A championship as a junior, when she averaged 20.8 points and shot 63.9 percent from the field. She also averaged 5.2 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 3.7 assists. Back to Top ILLINOIS Amy Jaeschke New Trier Township HS, Winnetka, Ill. 6-5 post, Class of 2007 Northwestern signee Jaeschke is one of the very few classic post players in her class and, as such, wa s one of the most sought-after prospects in the country, including several of the most academically challenging institutions in the nation. The No. 29 overall prospect in the 2007 class by HoopGurlz.com, she also was ranked as high as the top 10 by some scouting services and excelled on the summer circuit, where she was a two-time adidas Top Ten Camp all-star, and in high school, where she has been an all-state selection. Brittany Johnson East Richland HS, Olney, Ill. 5-11 guard, Class of 2007 Ohio State signee A first-team, all-state selection her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, Johnson will end her illustrious career at East Richland with two Illinois state records - most career points, which she set on Dec. 28, 2006, and most consecutive free throws (47), which she set in 2005. The nation's No. 34 overall prospect in the 2007 class, according to HoopGurlz.com, she averaged 32 points per game as a junior, has deep range and athleticism, and does not take plays off. Devereaux Peters Fenwick HS, Oak Park, Ill. 6-2 forward, Class of 2007 Notre Dame signee Indicative of the fast-forwarded evolution the girl's game, Peters is a well-built, athletic forward who also can put the ball on the floor, is a smooth jump-shooter from the baseline and wings and puts her ample wingspan to great use at the defensive end. A recent McDonald's All-American choice, she is a key performer for one of the nation's powerhouse high-school programs. Peters also has been a stalwart on the summer club circuit, where she twice has been named an adidas Top Ten All-American Camp all-star. Courtney Weibel Hononegah HS, Rockton, Ill. 5-9 guard, Class of 2007 Marquette signee Weibel ended her career with a national-record 471 career three-pointers, toppling the previous mark of 455, achieved in 1999 by Nikki Tibbs of Butler High School in Huntsville, Ala. Weibel, who led her team to the 2007 regional finals, also equalled an Illinois state record with 12 three-pointers in a game and makes an estimated 30,000 threes in practice every year. She was a conference MVP and third-team, all-state selection as a junior, averaging 14.4 points a game. Back to Top INDIANA Skylar Diggins Washington HS, South Bend, Ind. 5-9 guard, class of 2009 Undecided Diggins is the fastest rising recruit in the Midwest. She was selected as Associated Press All-State third team as a freshman, Indiana Coaches Associates All-State Second team and was selected as a USA Today Top Underclassmen Team. She is one of the top shooting guard underclass recruits in the country following her spectacular play this summer. Diggins scored her 1,000th point early in her sophomore year and is on pace to crush the school record of 1,635, set by former University of Notre Dame star Jacqueline Batteast. At the end of 2006 she was averaging 22 points and four assists per game. Ta’Shia Phillips Brebeuf Jesuit HS, Indianapolis, Ind. 6-6 center, class of 2007 Undecided The one-time Purdue commit is the highest rated senior still uncommitted. She had verbaled as a junior to Purdue but a coaching change had the entire group of commits from that summer change their minds. Phillips plays for one of the top club teams in the country and has been rated in her region as one of the top players since she was a freshman. She was selected as a First Team Street and Smith All American and Third Team Parade All American in both 2005 and 2006. She is a rebounding machine who is bigger and stronger than any high school player you will find. She averages a double double and for her high school career she has averaged more than 17 points while averaging more than 11 rebounds. Brittany Rayburn Attica HS, Attica, Ind. 5-10 guard, class of 2008 Purdue commit This scoring machine regularly lights up the score board for 30-plus on her own. She is again an Indiana Miss Basketball nominee who, because of her scoring ability, sees a lot of junk defenses set up to stop her with two or three players dedicated just to her. She is ranked the No. 14 player in the 2008 class by HoopGurlz.com/Scout.com. She was selected as the state’s 1A/2A player of the year as a sophomore and is a front runner again as a junior. Rayburn was also selected by Hoosier Magazine to the All-State First Team as a sophomore averaging 24.4 points per game. Back to Top IOWA Charmaine Bell Roosevelt HS, Des Moines, Iowa 5-10 guard, Class of 2007 Northern Illinois signee Bell is one of the most successful players in Iowa Class 4A tournament history, finishing as one of only two players to collect more than 100 points, 60 rebounds and 40 assists in career tournament play. She earned MVP for all classifications, averaging 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists, as Roosevelt finished second in 2007. Bell averaged a modest 13.5 points in a spread-the-wealth offense, but was named first-team, all-state 4A for the second straight year and first-team, all-CIML for the third straight. Kelsey Bolte Battle Creek, Ida Grove, Iowa 6-1 guard, Classs of 2007 Iowa State signee Bolte led Battle Creek to the 2A championship for a second straight year after averaging 24.4 points and 11.1 rebounds her senior season. She was the 2A Iowa state Player of the Year, and earned a place on the Iowa state all-tournament team while leading Battle Creek to a 27-2 overall record and a place in the state championship game in 2006. She averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals as a junior to earn her second straight first-team, all-state and Iowa Basketball Coaches Association all-region honors. Bolte also has been named first-team, All-Northwest Iowa by the Sioux City Journal after her junior and sophomore seasons. Kelsey Cermak Norwalk HS, Norwalk, Iowa 6-2 forward, Class of 2007 Iowa signee Cermak averaged 17.3 points and was named Player of the Year by the Iowa Sports Connection and first-team, all-state 3A for the third straight year by the Des Moines Register and Iowa Newspaper Association. She helped lead Norwalk to the Iowa State 3A championship in 2006, averaging 17.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals. Cermak has been named first-team, all-conference and first-team all-district all four of her years at Norwalk. Amanda Zimmerman Ballard HS, Huxley, Iowa 6-2 forward, Class of 2009 Iowa State commit Zimmerman committed to Iowa State a month before her first day as a freshman at Norwalk and has proven herself on the court ever since. She averaged 19.0 points during her sophomore season, earning first-team, all-state 3A honors for the second straight year and was a second-team, all-state selection for all classifications by the Iowa Sports Connection.
