Honor Roll: New Jersey to Ohio

The rollout of the HoopGurlz National Honor Roll, which commemorates achievement on the court (high-school and club basketball) and off (classroom and community) picks up with New Jersey through Ohio. The publisher apologizes for the mistake in alphabetization; the master list will be correct.

NEW JERSEY

Shadasia Green
Paterson Eastside HS, Piscataway, N.J.
5-9 guard, Class of 2007
Old Dominion signee

Extremely polished at the offensive end, Green led Eastside to the Passaic County championship, averaging 15.7 points as a junior.

Iasia Hemingway
Shabazz HS, Newark, N.J.
5-11 wing, Class of 2007
Georgia Tech signee

Hemingway is one of the nation's most effective inside-outside scorers, dubbed "mini-Barkley" by HoopGurlz.com, which also ranked her the No. 20 prospect in the country. As a junior, she averaged 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds, leading Shabazz to a state-record, 33-0 record and second state championship during her career. The extraordinary season earned her Star-Ledger Player of the Year honors, as well as first-team all-state, second-team EA Sports All-American selections. A standout during her first year on the national club circuit, she led the Nike Nationals, arguably the most prestigious event of the summer, in scoring with 20.3 points per game.

Lauren Jimenez
North Bergen HS, North Bergen, N.J.
6-4 post, Class of 2007
James Madison signee

During her senior season, Jimenez set two school scoring records, tallying a career-high 39 points for a single-game mark, then the next day scoring the 1,567th point of her career, surpassing the record set by Margaret Gesualdi back in 1987. She was third team all-state and first team All-North Jersey after averaging 19.2 points, 12.4 rebounds, 5.1 blocks and 4.0 steals during her junior season.

NEW YORK

Lorin Dixon
Christ the King, Middle Village, N.Y.
5-4 guard, Class of 2007
Connecticut signee

One of the quickest players in the country, Dixon is the No. 19 prospect in her class, according to HoopGurlz.com, and helped Christ the King to two straight national titles, per USA Today and Full Court Press, as a sophomore and junior. Her extraordinary leaping ability helped her become an almost unstoppable finisher in traffic; she now has harnessed those hops into a reliable pull-up jump shot. Dixon was a second-team EA Sports All-American, New York State Tournament MVP and first-team, all-city selection as a junior. She joins Maya Moore to make Connecticut the highest-ranked two-player signing class in the nation.

Erica Morrow
Murry Bergtraum HS, New York, N.Y.
5-8 guard, Class of 2007
Syracuse signee

A defender and shooter extraordinaire, Morrow is the No. 37 prospect in her class, according to HoopGurlz.com, and helped Murry Bergtraum remain a regional power and nationally ranked team during her career there. She set the NY High School Federation State Championship record with three three-pointers in one game in 2005 and averaged 19.5 points for Bergtraum the next year as a junior. Morrow also was a standout on the club circuit, helping Exodus win the Big Apple TOC and earning all-star status at the adidas Big Ten All-American Camp in 2006.

Samantha Prahalis
Commack HS, Commack, N.Y.
5-6 guard, Class of 2008

One of the top point guards in her class, Prahalis is an absolute magician with the basketball with a definite wow factor on her dribbling moves and passes. Ranked No. 19 nationally in her class by HoopGurlz.com, she was an adidas Top Ten All-American Camp all-star, Street & Smith All-America honorable mention, fourth-team all-state and first-team, all-area choice in 2006, during which she averaged 23.6 points and 7.0 assists as a sophomore.

NORTH CAROLINA

Cetera DeGraffenreid
Smoky Moutain HS, Sylva, N.C.
5-5 guard, Class of 2007
North Carolina signee

DeGraffenreid helped lead Smoky High to a Class 2A state championship as a senior. The No. 14 overall prospect in the nation and a preseason High School All-American, according to HoopGurlz.com, she is on the short side, but built like a tank and is extremely fast and shifty. She earned a reputation as a scorer after averaging 32 points for Smoky Mountain as a junior, but proved her mettle as one of the nation's toughest defenders on the club circuit. DeGraffenreid plays every play with extreme elan, an approach that's earned her first-team all-state, as well as conference MVP honors.

Katheryn Lyons
Bishop Mc Guinness HS, Winston Salem, N.C.
5-10 guard, Class of 2007
Maryland signee

Lyons led Bishop McGuiness to a second straight Class 1A state championship as a senior. She helped Bishop Guiness to a 31-0 record and a top-25 national ranking by USA Today as a junior, earning conference Player of the Year honors after averaging 17.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 5.6 steals. She was the MVP of the state tournament championship game, ranks second in her class with a 4.83 grade point average, is a member of the National Honor Society and is the youngest member to ever be selected to serve on the Kernersville Town and Parks Advisory Board. Lyons committed to Maryland after her sophomore year.

Candace Wood
Victory Christian, Charlotte, N.C.
5-11 guard, Class of 2008
North Carolina commit

Wood helped lead Victory Christian to a private-school state championship in 2007. The daughter of former Tar Heel great and NBA player Al Wood, she follows in her father's footsteps as a light's out shooter from most spots on the floor. She also is following her father's footsteps to North Carolina, to which she committed after her sophomore year at Victory Christian. Wood has an extensive list of honors, including first-team, all-state from the high-school ranks, as well as the club-team circuit, among which was leading Team Carolina to the AAU Jr. Olympic title in 2006.

NORTH DAKOTA

Kristen Cuypers
Litchville-Marion-Montpelier HS, Marion, N.D.
5-11 forward, Class of 2007
Undecided

A versatile player who handles the ball well, can post up, and step out and shoot the three, Cuypers has scored more than 1,500 points during her high-school career. She was named second-team all-state, all-county and All-Sun Country after averaging 18.8 points and 11.3 rebounds as a junior. The team leader, Cuypers is captain, MVP, leading scorer, rebounder and free-throw shooter for Litchville-Marion.

Jessica Kielpinski
Mandan HS, Bismark, N.D.
6-1 post, Class of 2007
New Mexico signee

Having played varsity since the 8th grade, Kielpinski has helped Mandan win four straight Class A state championships and is the frontrunner for the state's Miss Basketball award. She was named the state tournament MVP during her sophomore season. As a junior, Kielpinski averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and was named first-team, all-state by North Dakota Sportscasters and Sportswriters. She also is an all-state performer in volleyball and plans to study physical therapy in college.

Ayana Dunning
Eastmoor HS, Columbus, Ohio

A club teammate of Jantel Lavender's, Dunning likewise is the No. 3 overall player and most polished post prospect in her class. She has all the basics for the post position, including footwork and moves on the blocks which are exceptional for a player so young. She earned seccond-team, all-state honors after her junior year and helped Eastmoor to a Division II state championship her freshman season. Also a standout on the club circuit, she already has made one trip to the Nike Skills Acadamy for girls.

Jantel Lavender
Central Catholic, Cleveland, Ohio
6-4 post, Class of 2007
Ohio State signee

The No. 3 overall prospect in her class and a first-team preseason High School All-American by HoopGurlz.com, plus a third-team Parade All-American, Lavender is by far the most polished post player in the country. She has great size and puts it to great advantage, as well as covers all the basics - positioning, footwoork, basic shots, one-on-one defense and outlet passes. Lavender was named Ohio's player of the year for the second straight year after averaging 22 points during her junior season. Also a standout on the club circuit, she was an End of the Trail co-MVP in 2005 and has attended the invitation-only Nike Skills Academy for girls.

Shay Selby
Regina HS, Geneva, Ohio
5-10 guard, Class of 2008
Duke commit

The No. 11 overall prospect in her class, per HoopGurlz.com, Selby also is considered the top point guard in 2008. She has good size and virtually cannot be prevented from pentrating the lane, where she has the strength and explosiveness to finish. She also has a reliable jump shot and very good passing skills. Selby averaged 24 points and five assists during her sophomore season to earn second-team all-state honors. She was an early commit to Duke in October of 2006.
