* Utah * Vermont * SOUTH DAKOTA Kristin Rotert McCook Central HS, Salem, S.D. 6-0 wing, Class of 2007 South Dakota State signee A member of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader First Five and a first-team all-state selection, Rotert averaged 22.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game during her junior season. She was named to the all-tournament team at the 2006 Class A state tournament after making a record 14 three-pointers in three games. A four-time all-conference selection, Rotert holds McCook's single-game scoring record with 37 points. She also shared leading scorer status with Jill Young for the South Dakota Elite team that won the Miss Basketball Showcase in 2006. Rotert also has competed in state track and golf meets and is a member of the National Honor Society. Jill Young Mitchell Christian HS, Mitchell, S.D. 5-7 guard, Class of 2007 Creighton signee The reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in the state, Young is considered one of the best girl's basketball players in South Dakota history. Already South Dakota's career leader in three-pointers, she broke the state career scoring record on Feb. 13, 2007, surpassing the 3,268 points set by Becky Flynn-Jensen of Wakonda in 1991. As a junior, Young averaged 29.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.3 steals in leading Mitchell to its first-ever Class B state championship and earned Player of the Year honors from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and Mitchell Daily Record. She set state records for most points (765) and three-pointers (105) during her junior season. Young has played varsity basketball for Mitchell since the 7th grade and, as an 8th grader, averaged 29.2 points and was a second-team, all-state selection. A standout on the club circuit, she also was MVP of the Miss Basketball Showcase in 2006. Back to Top TENNESSEE Glory Johnson Webb School Of Knoxville, Knoxville, Tenn. 6-2, class of 2008 Undecided Johnson is one of the premier underclass athletes and is a Tennessee State Miss Basketball Finalist as well as the 2006 KIL Player of the Year. She has been a Street & Smith All-American since her sophomore year. She has been the State Regional MVP both in her sophomore and junior years as well as other local All-Area teams. She averaged 19 points per game as a sophomore and leads the back in terms of SEC recruiting prospects being targeted for Tennessee for a long time. She is an elite athlete on the floor with the ability to run with the guards, has smooth dribble move and can dunk on breakaways. Angela Puleo William Blount HS, Maryville,Tenn. 5-10 guard, class of 2007 Georgia signee Puleo is one of the top three-point shooters in the country and she is simply too good of a shooter to let catch and shoot. She spent most of her high school years as a point guard but really emerged this summer on an elite club team as a scoring threat both from catch and shoot and off the dribble. She will add a lot of firepower to Coach Andy Landers' Bulldog team next year. She was selected by HoopGurlz.com as a Basketball on the Bayouu All Tournament Selection as well as the Second Team All-Nike Nationals where the top 20 Nike teams in the country squared off in the most competitive tournament of the summer. She helped lead her team to the championship game where the opposition needed overtime to topple the Heat. Puleo was the Knoxville News Sentianel Player of the Year for 2006 averaging more than 25 points per game. Back to Top TEXAS Kelsey Bone Dulles HS, Sugarland, Texas 6-3 post, Class of 2009 Undecided A third-team preseason All-American and only sophomore, per HoopGurlz.com, Bone has a very good chance to be the best player in the country by her junior season. She possesses an almost unparalleled combination of size and athleticism and, when focused, can be unstoppable inside. Sydney Colson Westside HS, Houston, Texas 5-8 guard, Class of 2007 Texas A&M Signee The No. 18 overall prospect in 2007, according to HoopGurlz.com, Colson is teeth-chatteringly quick and can shoot from anywhere on the court, including far behind the three-point arc. She led Westside to a 34-5 record and the Region III 5A championship game, where they lost to Cy-Fair in spite of her 28 points. She was named All-State 5A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and selected to play in the WBCA All-Star Game. Colson earned All-Greater Houston honors after averaging 16.2 points and 4.2 assists per game as a junior, and is a member of the Naitonal Honor Society. Stefanie Gilbreath Cinco Ranch HS, Katy, Texas 6-2 wing, Class of 2007 USC signee The No. 11 overall prospect in her class by HoopGurlz.com, Gilbreath was a member of USA Basketball's U18 team that won the gold medal in the Americas qualifying tournament and led that team in three-pointers. A big, long guard who has an abundance of scoring options, she also was named a preseason high-school All-American by HoopGurlz.com, an All-American Fourth Team selection by Parade Magazine and the Houston Chronicle's preseason player of the year heading into her senior season. Nneka Ogwumike Cy-Fair HS, Cypress, Texas 6-2 forward, Class of 2008 Undecided An underclass All-American by USA Today, Ogwumike is ranked as high as No. 1 in the 2008 class by some scouting services and is No. 10 in the class by HoopGurlz.com. She averaged 22.1 points as a sophomore and during her junior season has led Cy-Fair to nationally ranked status. Ogwumike may have the best hands of any inside player in the country, is quick and explosive off the floor and uses her wingspan to great advantage on the boards. Brooklyn Pope Dunbar HS, Fort Worth, Texas 6-2 forward, Class of 2008 Undecided Much decorated on the national scene, Pope has an opportunity to be an integral part of the evolution of the women's game. At 6-2, she is explosive enough to dunk the ball with two hands and hang on the rim, but also is skilled enough to take defenders off the dribble and shot the ball very well from as far away as the three-point line. The No. 5 player in a very top-heavy 2008 class and a third-team, preseason All-American, both by HoopGurlz.com, Pope very much enjoys the spotlight and is a crowd-pleaser. Back to Top UTAH Tasha Dickey Brighton HS, Salt Lake City, Utah 5-10 guard, Class of 2007 Arizona signee Dickey will play college basketball where her father, Charlie, played and coached football and her mother, Lisa Bradshaw, played basketball. Living the itinerant lifestyle of a coach's daughter, Dickey has played high-school ball in Arizona, Washington and Utah, earning accolades in each state. A tough, polished player, she has achieved highest in Utah, earning All-State honors from both major newspapers after averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds for one of the state's best teams. Dani Peterson Skyline HS, Salt Lake City 6-2 forward, Class of 2008 Undecided Peterson is developing into perhaps the state's top prospect, improving her scoring average from 10.9 points as a sophomore to 17.5 her junior season. In 2006, she helped Skyline win the State 5A championship and remain ranked first or second in 2006-07. A power forward who can score inside, shoot the three and put the ball on the floor, Peterson was named first-team, all-state by the Salt Lake City Tribune and second-team, all-state by the Deseret Morning News after her sophomore season. Back to Top VERMONT Kelly Hier Rice Memorial, Colchester, Vt. 5-11 forward, Class of 2007 Undecided Hier was a Dream Dozen (Vermont Basketball Coaches Association), second-team all-state and first-team all-conference selection after averaging 15 points as a junior. Evan Librizzi Essex High, Essex Junction, Vt. 6-0 guard, Class of 2007 Colgate signee Librizzi was a first-team, all-state selection after averaging 12.5 points, seven rebounds and two blocks as a junior and was an honorable-mention choice after her sophomore season. She also was a Dream Dozen honoree by the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association. Librizzi suffered a broken wrist in early December but has returned to action, helping Essex's efforts to repeat its Vermont Division I state championship. Click Here |
