Full Court:How did your high school season go this year? What were somethings which made you a better player along the way?
Lesha Dunn:I go to Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute and we are Quad 'A' Ofsaa Champions, which is the highest level of high school basketball that could be played in Canada. We had a record of 35-3. I started in 35 of the 38 games. Somethings that made me a better player along the way were, me working in the weight room, getting to practice on time every morning, every evening, everyday. I will attend all of my classes, when not at tournaments and participate to the best of my ability. I was really focused during the season (I still am) but we had our mind set on winning a championship so we did. I matured a lot and when I matured mentally my game matured also.
Full Court:What specific parts of your game have you been working on to improve? How has that been coming?
Lesha Dunn:I am training with my coach, coach Ro Russell, working on my stamina, and strength. I am in the weight room and doing a program called P90x, it works on your core and I need that because I am on the verge of dunking. I am currently dunking small items (such as shoes, tennis balls, volley balls etc) so that is a working progress. I am also working on ball handling.
Full Court:How has your recruiting gone so far? Have you visited any schools and what are your impressions of them?
Lesha Dunn:I am being recruited by University of South Florida, Duquesne University, St. Johns University, University of Massachusetts, University of Southern Illinois, Trinity Valley Community College and Syracuse. I went on a unofficial visit to Syracuse and I thought they have a relaxed atmosphere and also that they have a really, really good program especially because their style of play is more centered around their big men.
Full Court:Being in Canada you may not be getting as much attention as some of the prospects in the United States. How do you feel you stack up against the top players in the US?
Lesha Dunn:Being in Canada, it's hard to get out there because it really depends on who you know. Coach Ro (Ro Russell)has a lot of connects so I'm fortunate but for others it's difficult because they are usually in the middle of nowhere. It's not like in the States where someone is ALWAYS watching. Most of the basketball here is just politics anyway so me getting attention here, I don't even worry about it because I am worried about trying to get attention in the States, where a million and one girls are trying to do the same. I don't really keep tabs on how I stack up against the top players, so I really do not know, I just let the coaches look at the pros and cons between us. I just play my best and do whatever I need to do to win and impress coaches.
