Full Court:How did your high school season go this year? What were somethings which made you a better player along the way?
Lee Anna Osei:I attend Eastern Commerce out of Toronto, Ontario which is known for producing some of the best basketball programs and student athletes out of Canada. This season we made history by becoming the only team to 2-peat OFSAA (State) championships at the high school level. We finished off at a 35 - 3 record. As the Captain of my team I developed throughout the season which helped me mature as a person on and off the court.
This season we had all but 1 player returning so it was no doubt that we were contenders for the gold, but we had a lot of financial issues to deal with mainly because we had no sponsors. Unfortunately for Canadian high school there are only certain teams who do get funding and if they do, it's usually a guy’s team. Luckily for us, our Head Coach took on full responsibility and agreed to pay for all of our non-season games and tournaments out of his own pockets if we were able to get our account balance back to $0. So once we did some fundraising events we were good to go for the 2009 season.
Full Court:What specific parts of your game have you been working on to improve? How has that been coming?
Lee Anna Osei: I've always been a pass first point guard so I love to create off the dribble by using screens. Since I graduated school in January I've been working a lot on my finishing around the basket and increasing my range from the 3 point line so that I’ll be a threat at the next level as a small guard. I've also been working on my pull-ups from different angles on the court so that I can use my quickness to not only create for others but for myself as well. I'm also a big 2-ball fan so whenever I get the chance I work on that.
Full Court:How has your recruiting gone so far? Have you visited any schools and what are your impressions of them?
Lee Anna Osei: Earlier this year I went on an unofficial visit to Syracuse which I enjoyed because I was able to see the great facility, meet the coaches and learn their style of play. Syracuse is a great young running team with a lot of guards. Since I got my SAT out of the way in February my recruiting has increased and has been more active. Currently I’m unsigned and am hoping to find a school right for me by the end of April.
Full Court:Being in Canada you may not be getting as much attention as some of the prospects in the United States. How do you feel you stack up against the top players in the US?
Lee Anna Osei:As far as competition goes I like to bring it every game, whether in Canada or the U.S.I like to play with the same intensity in a practice, game, tournament, or even an open scrimmage so that my level of play remains consistent. However, I do love to go up against top notch players to see for myself how I match up against them and I rely a lot on my defense when I do. I'd much rather play in a competitive game and win by 5 in OT, then blow out a team by 40. You know what they say though, “A win is a win.”
