Top Teams of Peach State
Georgia Elite Georgia Elite was the best overall team in the tournament, capturing the Black Division championship. They have beaten all of the teams highlighted in this article, except for the Georgia Blazers, whom they have not yet played.
Elite is led really by coaching and chemistry more than any individual player or other factor. As for prospects, Andraya Carter is likely to be the top 2012 point guard in the country. Carter has great judgment for a freshman and has an excellent skill set. Lauren Coleman (5’10,’’ Parkview) is their top senior recruit. Coleman is receiving interest from all over the recruiting board and could be a solid college player at several positions. Coleman is a 2010 prospect who will be highly sought after this spring and summer
Kentucky Blue Chip Blue Chip fell to Georgia Elite in the Black Division Championship game. They are another very well coached team and have a plethora of Division I talent. Blue Chip’s top prospect is 2013 Makayla Epps 5’8’’ Marion Guard. Sarah Hammond, a 6’3’’ forward from Rockcastle, Kentucky, had a breakout weekend and should be one of the top combo forwards in the country in 2011.
As for Blue Chip’s incoming senior class, Ebony Rowe 5’9’’ F Dunbar is the headliner for a team who will likely put a half-dozen players in Division I in 2010.
Southeast Elite Possibly the most talented team in the event, Southeast Elite was strong inside and out. On the inside, Tori Waldner put most teams at a size disadvantage from the go. Walder is a 6’4’’ post with a soft touch around the basket.
In the backcourt, Southeast Elite was led by Tiffany Mitchell (2012 – Providence Day) and Sydney Wallace (2011 – Northeast). This combo may be the best young combination of guards in the country and surely the top backcourt in the South. Southeast Elite won the White Bracket with little resistance.
FGB Junior Elite FGB dominated their first two games behind strong guard play from Kim Smith, Latavia Dempsey, and Jermisha McRae but really struggled to score in their final two games of the weekend. FGB held a double figure lead over the Georgia Blazers before having scoring issues and falling to them in their final game by three points.
FGB’s Ronisha Mitchell 5’5’’ G Wildwood, Fl had a breakout weekend securing herself a Division I scholarship. Along with Mitchell, Chaquera Kent made her exposure debut as well and wowed college coaches with her strong inside play. Latesha Johnson 5’8’’ G Lakewood played well at the guard spot and has attracted major Division I interest as well.
Georgia Blazers – Foster The Blazers had the top prospect in the event in Shaunice McKinney, a 6’4’’ center from Lefore, Alabama. Along with McKinney, 6’2’’ Kayla Brewer from Jacksonville, Florida held down the middle for the Blazers. The Blazers had two very close games in the final rounds where they lost to Kentucky Blue Chip in the semifinals but won the third-place game against FGB by three points.
