The South is one of the biggest hotbeds of athletic talent in the United States and this edition of the best of the Spring highlights the updated top 20 club teams of the south entering the summer.

1. Tennessee Flight Silver (Murfreesboro, TN) –Flight Silver is a congomoration of the top talent in the country, touching both coasts with Kaleena Lewis 5’9’’ G 2011 Mater Dei and Stefanie Dolson 6’5’’ C 2010 Mikulski Valley. The Flight Silver finished 2nd at Boo Williams and will looking at the number 1 spot in the nation if they can win Nike Nationals.

2. Tennessee Flight Titanium (Murfreesboro, TN)- The Titanium Flight won the Wildcat Classic in Lexington, KY this past weekend defeating the Florida Essence. The Titanium is similar to the Silver except they do not have Lewis and Dolson. Look for them to play much more frequently this summer then the Silver because of the cost of travel.

3. Georgia Elite (Atlanta, GA) – Still undefeated, Andraya Carter’s Georgia Elite team has beaten several of the top teams in the south including FGB Junior Elite, the Georgia Ice, Southeast Elite, and the Georgia Pistols. Georgia Elite will be playing at AAU in July as well as several Peach State Events.

4. Team Breakdown (Miami, Fl) – Breakdown has only played three events this spring and finished in the top 4 of all three events. Breakdown’s strong play at the Deep South Classic lands them a spot in our top 5.

5. Jacksonville Lady Rams (Jacksonville, Fl) – The Rams struggled early at Deep South but have won three tournaments in Florida to move them into the top 5 in the rankings. The Rams won Disney’s Spring Fling, AAU State and the Coast to Coast Super Regional Tournament in Florida.

6. Essence (Tallahassee, Fl) – The Essence have not faced a team in Florida this year but have done reasonably well on the national scene with a 3-1 record at Boo Williams and finishing runner up at the Wildcat Memorial Day Classic in Kentucky. The Essence have been without Super Frosh Alexis Prince who has been sitting out with a stress fracture in her foot.

7. Memphis Elite (Memphis, TN) – Elite showed well at the Boo Williams Invitational, and won the Tennessee AAU State Championship, defeating the Tennessee Flight Blue Team, 71-65. They withdrew from Lexington Wildcat Challenge Memorial Day event in Kentucky due to the injury of three of their top players -- Lauren Avant (out until the fall after shoulder surgery), Chassidy Fussell (a hip injury, now healed), and Samantha Drake (finger injuries to left hand--also healed)--as well as to exam conflicts caused by the late times on the Memorial Day bracket games, according to Gordon Summerfield, head of the Elite organization. The injuries have taken a temporary toll on this powerhouse team, but according to Summerfield, the Elite "should be in good shape in July."

8. Blue Chip All Stars (Lexington, KY) – Blue Chip finished 2nd in the top event in the South so far this year (Peach State Tip Off) with a loss to Georgia Elite. Look for Blue Chip to be tested in July in the Battle in the Boro. Sarah Hammond is a big time prospect for Blue Chip.

9. Georgia Blazers – Foster (Columbus, GA) – The Blazers have one of the best frontcourts in the South with Kayla Brewer 6’2’’ F Jacksonville Ribault 2011 and Shaunice McKinney 6’4’’ C Lefore AL 2010. The Blazers finished 3rd at the Peach State Tip Off Classic but will be much more polished come july.

10. DEBO Elite (Altamonte Springs, Fl) – DEBO edged out FGB for the final spot in the top 10 with a win over them in the quarter finals at Spring Fling II. DEBO is led by All-World Sophomore Morgan Jones 2011 6’0’’ G Lake Mary and 6’3’’ forward prospect Katherine Zander out of Orange Park, Florida.

11. FGB Junior Elite

12. Southeast Elite

13. Georgia Ice

14. Georgia Metro’s

15. Queen City Dynasty

16. Garner Flames

17. Alabama Roadrunners

18. Tennessee Wings

19. Charlotte 76ers

20. South Carolina 76ers
