Tournament Rules

  • Each grade division is divided into two pools. Each team will play two pool games. All teams advance to single-elimination bracket play with seedings determined by pool finish.
  • Ties in pool broken by (in order): 1. Head-to-Head Results, 2. Overall Point Differential (+/- 15 points maximum per game), 3. Overall Points Scored (50 points maximum per game), 4. Coin Flip.
  • Games are 20-minute running clock halves. Clock is stopped during the last two minutes of each half and during timeouts.
  • Three (3) one-minute timeouts per game.
  • Two-minute, stop-clock overtime if teams are tied after regulation; one-minute, stop-clock overtime if teams are tied after subsequent overtime periods. One timeout (one-minute) per team for each overtime period. No carry over on timeouts.
  • No shot clock.
  • Championship games will be 16-minute, stop-clock halves with three (3) one-minute timeouts and one 30-second timeout for regulation play. Overtimes will be two-minute, stop-clock.
  • In the event of time constraints, tournament directors reserve the right to reduce the above stop-clock criteria.
  • With the exception of the above, high school rules apply. All disputes will be resolved by the tournament directors. There will be no further protest.

Saturday, 10:50 a.m. - 11:50 a.m., Sheri Hedlund - (Storm Athletic Trainer): "Benefits of Sports Participation"

Sheri Hedlund is in her third season as the Storm’s athletic trainer after spending the previous four years with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF). She brings more than 20 years of experience as an athletic trainer to the Storm staff and is responsible for the day-to-day health of the team, including evaluation therapy and rehabilitation. Before her tenure with the USTA, Hedlund taught sports medicine at Kentlake High School and developed personalized training programs for student-athletes. She also served as a trainer at the Virginia Mason Sports Medicine Center in Seattle.

Saturday, 1:10 p.m. - 2:10 p.m., Storm player Amanda Lassiter: "Teamwork, Being Active, and the Benefits of Participating in Sports"


Amanda Lassiter orginially was a first-round WNBA Draft pick by the then-defending-champion Houston Comets in 2001. She was traded to the Storm for point guard Sonja Henning and started 22 of 24 games for Seattle. In Houston, Lassiter had 34 assists in 2001, which was the most ever by a Comets rookie in one season. She also set the Comets rookie record for rebounds in a game with a career-high 13 at Sacramento on July 10, 2001. The Missouri 2001 grad was the San Francisco Player of the Year during her senior year in high school and would like to be a high school coach after her pro career is finished.

Saturday, 2:10 p.m. - 3 p.m., Storm conditioning/strength coach Daniel Shapiro: "Off the Court Training"

Daniel Shapiro, a Newcastle, Wash., native, begins his fourth season designing and implementing on and off-season strength, conditioning, and flexibility programs for Storm players. He also assists with injury rehabilitation and advises players about nutrition. For the past six years, Shapiro has worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach under Dwight Daub, the player development coach for the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics. A 2000 graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science, Shapiro completed his master’s of science degree in physical education this spring.

Sunday, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Coaches Chris Bown and Tom Newell: "Sports Parents"

Chris Bown is in his fourth season as assistant to Lakeside girls basketball coach Sandy Schneider. A graduate of the University of Washington, Bown last season worked for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, where he was an Assistant Coach/Coordinator for Individual Player Development. He has also been the head coach for girls varsity basketball teams at Holy Names Academy, Seattle Academy and American Indian Heritage School. In addition to basketball, Bown has coached soccer, track and field, cross-country and football, and has been a math and physical education instructor at St. Paul School and Seattle Academy.

Tom Newell, recently an assistant with Portland in the WNBA, has more than 20 years in professional and international basketball programs. Formerly the Head Coach of the Japan National Men's Team, Newell has co-authored "Offensive Post Play" with his father, legendary coach Pete Newell. After working for several NBA teams, including a stint as assistant with the Sonics, and coaching and conducting clinics worldwide, he founded Coaches Who Care Intl., which assists volunteer coaches with a proper teaching model and development programs that enable coaches and kids to have a positive experience with youth sports.
