HoopGurlz.com Prospect Database & Rankings
|
|
The road to being rated or included in HoopGurlz.com's national rankings starts with the creation of a player page to be permanently included in our player database. We are happy to create player pages, with your cooperation. Please carefully read and follow the instructions below to begin that process. Oftentimes, the information you send us will be included in stories, which assists in the exposure of prospects. Finally, please keep in mind that we are a small, volunteer outfit and it sometimes takes several weeks for us to input profile data.

IMPORTANT NOTE (January, 2007): If you have submitted information for a prospect page, you have our most sincere apologies if you cannot find the resulting page. We never have had fulltime staffing to begin with and currently are working on a very arduous project for the Gatorade Player of the Year in all fifty states and District of Columbia. Not only that, but we are uncertain about our status on this network and have been reluctant to create player pages, unless players are mentioned in stories. At that point, we will create them. Please hang in there; we understand this is important to you.

Getting a Player Page
Please email all of the data discussed to profile@hoopgurlz.com
only. You will receive an auto-reply email from the hoopgurlz address. The basics we require include
accurately spelled name, high school with location (city and state), class and height.
You also should send career accomplishments and honors in the format displayed on other player pages and to the left (Award, year ... Accomplishment, year ... Eg., Player of the Year, Hometown Newspaper, 2006. ... Co-captain, 2005). Also extremely helpful is a digital head shot.
It is perfectly acceptable, even more desirable, to have someone take a head-and-shoulders shot with a digital point and shoot. Even better is a professional portrait, but that is
not necessary! If you are shooting your own photo, choose a neutral background and have the subject stand
away from the background, as standing too close will cast unflattering shadows. You also may send (high-quality) action shots - in addition to, but not instead of, the head shot. Please make sure you have permission to use the photo! The photographer usually owns copyrights to a photo.
You also may send recruiting information, if you truly are being courted by schools and have interest in them. You may send as many as seven schools. If you (or the prospect you are representing), has higher interest in specific schools, please note that.
Some girls and their parents balk at offering a school list. The most common reason we hear is, "If I leave (school) off my list, they might stop recruiting me." This is
not true. Please keep in mind that coaches are in the business of winning and, if they need you to accomplish that goal, they will not stop recruiting you because they are not included on any list. In fact, it likely will make them recruit you more aggressively. We also were involved in founding Rivals.com and Scout.com and found, with the boys, that the school information helped protect prospects from being misled, as well as helped guide them with information about the recruiting process.
If you have offers (they
must be written to be legitimate), please note those, too. If you schedule official visits, send us the relevant information. We understand that some of you are reluctant to send a list or, even, a list that you feel does not include all of your schools. Trust us, this does
not work against you!
Finally,
none of this is written in stone. You rely on our prospects, their families and coaches to keep us - and therefore your player page - updated. Please feel free to send updated information.
When your page is completed, we will send you the URL. Feel free to send the page to schools, friends, family - whomever you want to share your accomplishments with.
(Possibly) Getting Ranked or Rated
We of course cannot guarantee that you (or your prospect) will be nationally ranked. We do not perform "word-of-mouth" evaluations, though if you are a coach, you may include comments on your prospect that may help us write a story. We evaluate prospects after we see them - in person or, at least, on video. Your (or your prospect's) chances of being evaluated are improved if you send us the name of your summer team and your summer schedule. They will improve even more, if you can send us video, preferably on DVD (though tape is fine). While we will appreciate highlights (and may even post it) but can truly evaluate only full-game video.
