Chris Bown, who writes The Drill, is the head girl's basketball coach at Lakeside, a coach with the Northwest HoopGurlz traveling girl's team, and a former assistant with the Seattle Storm of the WNBA. He previously was head coach at Holy Names and an assistant coach under legendary Sandy Schneider at Lakeside for five seasons. Shimmy Gray is in her first year at head women's basketball coach at St. Louis University. Previously, she was an assistant with the University of Arizona Wildcats and the University of Washington. A native of Flint, Mich., and standout at Carman-Ainsworth High, Shimmy played college basketball at Michigan from 1991-94, where she was a three-year starter for the Wolverines and team captain as a senior. Gary Kloppenburg is an assistant coach with the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. Before joining Charlotte, Gary was an assistant with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm. The son of legendary coach Bob Kloppenburg, Gary is a 1981 University of California-San Diego graduate who also served as an assistant with the Continental Basketball League’s Rockford Lightning and the Quad City Thunder. Tim Vagen, who writes Making the Athlete, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who is the founder and owner of Athletes Unlimited, a Kent, Wash., athletic development consulting service. He has more than 22 years of experience teaching athletes in many sports to move more efficiently.
